Over the trimester I have learned a lot about myself as a photographer and more about the camera and photoshop. I realized that I like producing black and white photos that have people in them. With photoshop I realized that I like desaturated photos or bright colorful photos. I think that the mood and tone that the image gives off is very different. Below are photos that I took throughout digital photography two. Overall I am really proud of how these have turned out.

For this assignment we had to do something that we wanted to do. I wanted to focus on working on taking photos of people because I don't like it and I wanted to challenge myself. I really liked the way that they turned out but taking the photos is the hardest. I think it is the hardest for me because I don't like directing/telling people what do do. Below on the left is my best unedited photo. On the right I cropped the photo, made it black and white, erased it so the color of the subject came through, and I made it less vibrant and saturated. I also focused on landscape photos because I wanted to work on placing things in the frame. After doing this assignment I learned that I really like making photos black and white with a little color. I also really like desaturated photos. I think that they look really cool and give you a different feeling that photos with a lot of color.
For this assignment I took still life photos. This was hard for me because I don't like taking still life photos. It is really hard for me to think of ideas and what I want in my photo. Below on the left is my best photo unedited. On the right I made it black and white, cropped, and added a frame. I didn't really learn much from this assignment but I really liked how the black and white photos looked in the end. I think that I realized that black and white photos are my favorite to produce.
In the beginning I thought this was going to be really hard but the ones that I did were not hard but not easy. In the end I was really proud of myself to being able to recreate the advertisements. The photos on the left are the real advertisement and the photos on the right are the ones that I recreated. I learned that there is more that go into advertisements than you would think. I did some easy ones but I have seen hard ones that would take a long time to produce.
For this photo assignment I ran out of ideas and decided to do food. I didn't really like taking these photos but I had to get it done. Below on the left is the unedited version and on the right it is the cropped/edited version. From this assignment I learned that it is really hard to take photos when you don't have any idea of what you want or when you don't like the topic you are taking photos of.
Fir this assignment I had to take three studio pictures and two non-studio pictures. Below are my best studio and non-studio photos. Below are more studio and non-studio photos that I took. I learned that I really do not like being in portrait photos. I like taking the pictures. I also learned how to set up a studio for photos and who to set up a camera for studio pictures.
This assignment was to use light and a long shutter speed to capture light being moved through a photo. In the beginning I thought that it was really hard because I couldn't figure out how to get the subject to show in the photo but after watching some videos and working through it I figured it out. Below is by best photo. Below are more light painting photos that I thought turned out good. It took me a really long time to figure this out but these are the best I could get. I started out not liking this at all but in the end I was proud of my self for trying my best.
For this assignment I had to take self portraits and environmental portraits of people that I know. I really didn't like the self portraits but I think that they turned out okay. I enjoy taking the photos much more than being in the photos. Below are the portraits that I took. After doing this assignment I learned and have a better understanding about how to place a subject in a frame.
This assignment was given to us so that we can explore photoshop. I am not the best at photoshop but I can figure most things out if I have a video to go on. Below are some of the edits I did with a video to follow. I learned from this assignment that I like the way the photos turn out than the process that it takes to get them there but I do like having the power to change it to how you want it to look.
For this assignment I couldn't think of anything to do so I chose black and white. Below is my best black and white photo. As you can see I changed it to black and white. I also changed the amount of black and white that you can see and how dark or light it is. I changed the sky so that there is more of a contrast in the clouds. Below is the unedited version. I didn't learn much from this assignment because making a photo black and white only takes 1 click but I really enjoyed how the photos turned out.
For this assignment I had to take 20 to 30 photos of an area but the photos didn't have to lined up in any order. I had to take the photos so that when they lined up it would create a sharp outline. From this assignment I learned more about photoshop and I learned about this kind of photography. Things are not meant to line up correctly and you want to take photos of a large landscape so that all your photos are not in the same spot.
This was a photoshop assignment. It was hard for me to find a topic or group of objects to take photos of. I couldn't think of anything so I just did shoes. I don't think that I learned much from this assignment and I didn't think it was that much fun but I had to do it so I got it done.
For this assignment I decided to take nature photos because it was nice outside and warm. Below is the original photo. Below is the edited photo. I put a frame around it, I made it black and white but I erased it so that you could see the color of the flower. In this photo I wanted to make it express a different feeling. I think that is expresses a feeling of sadness because of the absence of color but also happiness because of the splash of color. I learned form this assignment that just by changing the color of the photo it can change the mood a lot. Below are a few more photos that I took. this photoshop assignment was to create a collage of images that represent us. It had to be blended well and creative. On the left it is me now. On the right it is me in the future. Going into this assignment I thought that it was going to be hard but it was actually really easy and fun. I think that the me now one is a lot better because I don't know what I want in mu future so it was herd for me to thing of images to put into the collage.
For this assignment I was told to take photos of what I wanted, so I took photos of animals. Below is the unedited version of my best photo. Below is the edited version of the photo above, with a white frame added and cropped. Below are a few more photos that I took. From this assignment I learned that taking photos of animals is one of my favorite kinds of photos to take. I also learned that it is hard to them to listen sometimes.
This assignment is to take 7 HDR photos with 3 off campus. I took more than what was assigned. In the beginning it was hard to understand how to change the camera to +2 and -2 but I ended up figuring it out. I learned that it is really easy to merge all of the photos together. I also learned that I don't really like taking those kinds of photos.
For this assignment I decided to take macro photos, or up close photos. When I was taking the photos it was warm one day and really cold the next. It was not fun taking photos in the freezing rain. Below is my best photo unedited. Below is my best photo after it was edited and a frame was added. Below are a few more macro photos that I took. From this assignment I learned that I really enjoy taking macro photos. I think that they are really interesting because you can see all the little details.
I was told to take panoramic photos. In total I had to have five panoramic photos. Three out of the five had to have to off campus. All of the photos have to be framed and that is easy to do. I ended up doing more that five panoramic photos because I had the time to do so. I already knew how to take panoramic photos because I learned it in digital photography 1. The first three photos are on campus and inside the school. I don't like taking photos inside the school because there is not much to take photos of. The off campus Photos I took near my house.
For this assignment I was told to take photos of color.
Throughout the whole process of photo 1 I was struggling with what to take photos of. I didn't have a lot of inspiration, so I looked up color photography and got an idea of what I wanted my photos to look like. My favorite are the ones that I turned into black and white with a pop of color.
This assignment was to take eight photos that I already had and add a frame around it. In the beginning I found this to be very hard but as a continued to work with it I got better at understanding photoshop and how it worked. I learned some new shortcuts and how to put different frames on photos.
For this assignment I had to show motion in two different forms, blur and freeze motion.
From this assignment I learned more about how to capture motion. It is important to realize what is in your frame before you take the photo and how the lighting is in the photo. I really liked taking photos of blur motion because it gives you a sense of motion and direction.
For this assignment I had to show some of the different principles of design. I found that this assignment was hard for me and I didn't really like it. From this assignment I learned that I didn't like taking photos and trying to just showcase one thing in the photo.
At the beginning of this class I had already had an appreciation for photography but I gained an even greater understanding of how hard and how much work is put into photos. When I first go a camera in my hand and started learning about the different settings I was a little confused but as I continued to work with the camera I started to understand the different settings. Throughout the year I have gotten better at taking pictures. For the first assignment I took macro photos and I was happy with how they came out. I would have liked to have gotten closer to some of the images but the camera I was provided was not able to do that. As I progressed through the class I began to understand more about the camera and how to work the different settings. In the beginning I didn't understand how to use he camera in manual mode but as the year went on I began to try using the camera in manual and got a little better at using and understanding manual mode. You can see the progression from my first assignment to my third assignment to my sixth assignment. In my sixth photo assignment I did still life and you can tell that I have gotten a lot better. I feel that the bets photos were the still life ones even though I didn't think that taking still life photos would be fun. I learned that you never know what you will like if you never try it.
his assignment was to take portrait photos of a subject and give them a white frame on a black background.
Below is the finished assignment. |
